Galaxy Z Fold 8 is convincing Z Flip owners to switch, Samsung says

Samsung is reporting that, following the tremendous success of its Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, more owners of Galaxy Z Flip devices are switching to the Fold this year. In a statement shared with select media outlets, Samsung announced that the pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 have reached their highest levels ever. The Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra have seen a 30% increase in pre-orders compared to the record-breaking release of the Fold 7.

According to Samsung, around half of all pre-orders across carriers and retail were for the wider Galaxy Z Fold 8. The "Lavender" color of the Fold 8 is currently sold out on Samsung.com, with an August delivery date for even the 256GB model. Samsung also revealed that around 25% of those who pre-ordered a Fold or Flip this year also purchased a Galaxy Watch.

Among the popular color choices for the Fold 8 series this year are "Graphite," as well as green shades like "Green Shadow" for the Fold 8 Ultra, "Pistachio" for the Fold 8, and "Mint" for the Flip 8. What stands out most, however, is the overwhelming number of existing Galaxy Z Flip owners upgrading to a Galaxy Z Fold 8 device this year.

While Samsung did not provide specific numbers, it is believed that there are three times as many Galaxy Z Flip owners upgrading to a Fold device compared to previous generations. This is likely due to the compact form factor of the Fold 8, which offers a large, more versatile display without the limitations of the Flip design.

Looking ahead, Samsung anticipates that the global foldable market will grow by more than 20% year-over-year and double in size by 2028. Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and other new foldable devices from Samsung close tomorrow, August 6, with full availability starting on August 7.
