Friends of missing couple still hoping for answers to plane mystery

Gregory Vaughan, 72, and Kim Worner, 66, along with their dog Molly, vanished from a bright green two-seater, single-engine Bristell S-LSA aircraft after taking off from George Town airport in Tasmania on August 2, 2025. Unbeknownst to the couple, their friend Stephen Ross, treasurer of the George Town Airport Association, noticed they had failed to make their customary radio contact after take-off. This lack of communication alarmed Ross and others who were aware of the couple's flight plans.

Despite extensive searches by authorities and concerned friends, no trace of the plane or the missing individuals has been found. The official search was called off after 12 months of efforts, though emotion surrounding the case remains. Mr Ross recalled an informal gathering last week, where friends shared memories of Kim and Greg, who had moved to Tasmania after Vaughan's retirement.

Vaughan, a lifelong pilot, had worked in aviation since his youth, transitioning from mechanical work in the US to a career in engine manufacturing and safety. Friends noted that advances in technology for locating missing aircraft have not changed since the disappearance. Ross hopes that if anyone comes across wreckage or parts of the plane, they should inform the police, as this could help solve the mystery.
