Family 'devastated' by death of girl, 9, injured on Scottish industrial estate

The family of nine-year-old Minnie Merriman, who tragically passed away after being found severely injured at an industrial estate in Arbroath, Scotland, have expressed their profound devastation at her loss. Minnie's father, Christopher Rice, has been charged with her murder and appeared in court on Wednesday. Rice, a 35-year-old father from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, made no plea during his private court appearance and was remanded in custody.

He is scheduled to return to court next week. Minnie was transported to Dundee's Ninewells Hospital on Monday, where she succumbed to her injuries later that day. Following the incident, officers were dispatched to the Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath shortly after midnight on Monday, following reports of a child in need of assistance.

In a statement released through Police Scotland, Minnie's family requested their privacy be respected during this emotionally challenging period, describing her as an "absolutely incredible, beautiful and brave" child. Police Scotland has stated they are not actively seeking any additional individuals in connection with the young girl's death.

The family of Minnie, who were camping in the area, are currently being supported by specialist officers.
