Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley reveals CB trait that 'drives him crazy'

In the midst of their training camp, the Miami Dolphins' new head coach Jeff Hafley expressed his displeasure regarding a specific trait in the behavior of defensive backs. Hailing from a background as a defensive coordinator and previously a cornerback, Hafley shared his views on the matter during a media interaction on Tuesday.

He adamantly stated, "I don't ever want to stay blocked." Hafley stressed that witnessing a cornerback demonstrating passivity in engaging with the receiver, allowing the latter to block him, is intolerable. This behavior, according to Hafley, reflects a deficiency in toughness and a weak mentality, signifying an inability to block, leverage the ball, and reach the target.

He further opined that a robust defense, whether observed in his own team or opponents, typically features physical corners who tackle effectively. In contrast, if wide receivers block down the field and target defensive backs and defenders, it usually indicates a formidable team. Hafley reiterated his stance on corners who fail to block, asserting it is unacceptable.

Miami's defensive secondary, predominantly inexperienced, will likely receive additional coaching guidance, particularly in these areas, as emphasized by Hafley. But, given the team's history of formidable tackles from their secondary, it appears the entire group must adhere to Hafley's directives, or they risk not making the cut.
