Christy Keane to face trial over €70k cocaine seizure

A Limerick resident, Christy Keane, aged 65, is set to face trial at the Special Criminal Court for alleged drug offenses. He is charged with possession of drugs and possession for the purpose of sale or supply, as per the Misuse of Drugs Act. The charges stem from a €70,000 cocaine seizure that occurred on November 22, 2024, during a search of Mr. Keane's home located at Singland Gardens. Mr. Keane made his appearance before the Limerick District Court via video link today.

Sergeant Aisling O'Neill, the prosecuting officer, informed the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed Mr. Keane to face trial on indictment at the Special Criminal Court. The court also heard that the State solicitor is requesting a two-week adjournment to facilitate the service of the full book of evidence. Judge Catherine Ryan decided to remand Mr. Keane in custody, with his next appearance scheduled for August 19 via video link to ensure the service of the book of evidence.
