Assassin's Creed Valhalla director comes back to Ubisoft to be game director for the entire brand

Eric Baptizat, renowned game designer behind Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and director of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, has returned to Ubisoft after a brief absence to assume the role of game director for the entire Assassin's Creed brand. Assassin's Creed Head of Content Jean Guesdon praised Baptizat's extensive experience, stating, "16 years at Ubisoft, key contributions to Black Flag, Origins, and Valhalla as Game Director, his passion for gameplay craft and his deep connection to this franchise speak for themselves."

The director's appointment underscores confidence in his ability to lead the brand with his "expertise, rigor, and collaborative spirit." Baptizat's career is marked by notable accomplishments, including leading James Cameron's Avatar: The Game as lead game designer and subsequent roles in Black Flag, Unity, Origins, and Valhalla.

After leaving Ubisoft in 2021 to join EA Motive, he directed the Dead Space remake and served as game design director on Battlefield 6. Baptizat's return to Ubisoft is a positive sign for the brand, given his track record with some of the company's most beloved titles, such as Black Flag. While he cannot single-handedly save Ubisoft, his return is a promising start for the future.
