LexisNexis opens customer innovation lab driven by AI to change the future of legal work

LexisNexis, a division of RELX plc, has launched a Customer Innovation Lab in New York City aimed at revolutionizing legal AI. The lab seeks to create a new model for developing AI solutions tailored for legal professionals, moving away from traditional methods of building AI and delivering it for feedback. Instead, the lab brings together legal workers, LexisNexis engineers, and AI technology to collaborate in real-time.

This human-centric approach allows for the quick transformation of tested prototypes into production-ready software within weeks.

The lab's primary goal is to empower customers with leading, purpose-built, and trusted legal AI. Chief Technology Officer Greg Dickason emphasized that the lab changes who is in the room when legal AI is built, enabling customers to originate and shape the solutions from day one. Legal professionals from various backgrounds, including law firms, corporate legal departments, judiciary, and academia, will contribute their insights on pain points and challenges within the legal practice.

Collaborating technology partners such as OpenAI Group PBC and Amazon Web Services Inc. have joined forces with LexisNexis and its customers. The lab is already shipping solutions developed from customer ideation and engineering expertise, including legal AI models, an advanced customer-managed Protégé Vault for securely storing and analyzing various materials, and Secure Protégé Workrooms for team collaboration augmented with AI assistants.

These solutions aim to adapt a firm or organization's drafting style, precedents, and playbooks into one place, while providing risk flagging and redline suggestions based on customers' own standards.
