Italian refuse collectors help recover €1m lottery ticket

In Italy, refuse collectors played a crucial role in recovering a €1 million lottery ticket that had been discarded. The fortunate winner, whose identity remains undisclosed, had unintentionally missed out on the big jackpot because her small win was not redeemable at smaller retailers. The ticket, miraculously intact despite being through a garbage truck's mounds of waste, was discovered after the winner learned about her big win from a family member.

The waste management company, SANB, was tasked with locating the ticket, even though it had been collected by a garbage truck. The workers managed to trace the ticket back to the correct truck and had it examined by a specialist company. Over a day of searching, they found various tickets and ticket stubs, including the one they were looking for.

The winner's emotional reaction upon learning about the ticket's recovery was captured by the workers. However, the search did not come without a cost, as the company would have to cover all additional expenses. The woman agreed to pay for the search, a gesture that proved to be a wise decision.
