Italian garbagemen help recover lost 1m euro lottery ticket

A one-million-euro lottery ticket was recovered from the trash in Italy after the desperate winner called on garbage men for assistance, according to the waste management company. The instant-win ticket remained intact after workers combed through piles of trash on their truck, stated Roberto Nicola Toscano, the administrator of the SANB company in Italy's southern Puglia region.

Upon checking her ticket at a local store, the woman was informed that her numbers were unpayable, as smaller retailers could only redeem small wins. However, she remained unaware that she had won the substantial jackpot. When she returned home, her family member informed her that her regular numbers had won. They rushed back to the store, only to find that the ticket had already been discarded and collected by the trash.

The woman called Toscano, who explained that they reconstructed the ticket's journey with little hope of finding it since it had already been picked up by a garbage truck. Fortunately, they managed to identify the correct truck and stopped it. Given the potential dangers of hazardous materials in the waste, they transported the vehicle to a specialized company equipped to conduct the search.

After searching for over a day, they discovered the winning stub among other tickets and stubs. The winner's emotional reaction upon learning of her successful recovery was described as she cried with emotion. To cover the additional costs incurred by the search, the woman agreed to a promise made by the company, which ultimately proved beneficial.
