Innere Sicherheit: Nach CSD-Anschlag: Linke gegen schnelle Gesetzesänderungen

Die Linke opposes swift legislative changes in the wake of the Islamist terror attack near the Christopher Street Days (CSD) in Berlin. Before any discussion, according to deputy faction leader Clara Bünger of the Left Party, it is necessary to examine why existing legal options were not fully utilized in the case of the later attacker, Abdul B. This opportunity would have arisen from the youth criminal law, which could have resulted in issuing a detention order.

However, the primary concern lies in why an Islamist, classified as a high-risk case by authorities, was not closely monitored and if information from the Joint Counter-Terrorism Center (GTAZ) was not properly forwarded to the court. The later attacker had been classified as a danger by the police in January 2026, after which the GTAZ, where police authorities and secret services collaborate, began investigating him.

Berlin's Constitutional Protection had known Abdul B. since November 2021. He had been sentenced to a still not legally binding youth punishment but remained at large. On July 25, the 21-year-old ran over several people with a car and allegedly attacked others with a machete. One woman died, and 31 people were injured. The Islamist was shot dead by police a day later after he allegedly attacked them.

Today, a special session of the Bundestag's Interior Committee will discuss the attack and Abdul B.'s handling. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) is expected to inform the legislators about the progress of the investigation. Union faction chief Thorsten Frei (CDU) has already indicated that he anticipates rapid legislative changes as a consequence of the attack.
