Coventry sign Brighton goalkeeper Rushworth after loan

Coventry City has secured the services of Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Carl Rushworth following a successful loan spell at the CBS Arena. The 25-year-old has agreed a deal worth a reported £22 million, though the exact fee and contract length have not been disclosed. During his time at Coventry last season, Rushworth played in every league game, keeping 17 clean sheets as the club secured promotion back to the Premier League after a 25-year absence.

Reflecting on his move, Rushworth expressed his joy and emotional response, saying, "I'm really happy, there's so many emotions that I've got. There's excitement, I can finally relax knowing it's done and that I'm back with the boys and at a club I loved being at." The goalkeeper noted that he had never made a senior appearance for Brighton, having endured six loan spells over seven years after joining Halifax Town in 2019.

Manager Frank Lampard praised Rushworth, stating, "It's great to have Carl back with us on a permanent basis. He's a top professional, a great character and he had a huge impact on the team to help us get promoted last season."
