Adeleke campaign seeks IG’s guarantee of peaceful election

The Imole Campaign Council in Osun State has urged the Inspector-General of Police to guarantee a peaceful and violence-free governorship election on August 15, 2026. In a statement, the council requested the IGP to ensure the neutrality and impartiality of security personnel during the election. They expressed concern over the reinstatement of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, citing doubts about the neutrality of the police command under his tenure.

The council called for an end to the use of arrests and detention to intimidate political opponents, stating that credible elections necessitate impartial security agencies. The Independent National Electoral Commission has completed preparations for the August 15, 2026, election, and security agencies are expected to play a crucial role in maintaining law and order.

Calls to the Force spokesman were not returned, and he has yet to respond to the matter. This appeal for election neutrality comes amid ongoing debates over police deployments in the state.
