UCF football must sort out these 3 positions during preseason camp

Orlando — Preseason camp for UCF football will commence on August 3, during which the Knights will address three key position battles. Despite head coach Scott Frost's assurance that no drama will surround the quarterback position, the Knights have already signed James Madison's Alonza Barnett III, despite his absence from spring practices.

Returning leaders Duane Thomas Jr., Dylan Wade, Preston Cushman, Lewis Carter, and Jayden Bellamy are expected to retain their positions. However, the running back, guard, and edge rusher positions will likely see significant changes.

In the backfield, Duke Watson from Louisville showcased his talent as a freshman, leading the nation in yards per carry. Taevion Swint, a former four-star recruit, could potentially step up in the mix due to his knee injury. Central Arkansas transfer Landen Chambers and Agyeman Addae, a preferred walk-on, have also shown promise and could find themselves in early-down roles.

Guard positions are open, with Henry Tabansi and Preston Cushman as the current starters, while Owen Spell impressed during the spring. The interior defensive line is wide open, with Connor Meadows, Justin Royes, Brady Wayburn, and Tyler Gibson all vying for spots. Linebacker Carter is expected to lead the defense, while Jayden Jennings brings valuable experience back to the team.

Edge rusher positions, including former All-Big 12 second-team selection Dean Miller, are also expected to be up for grabs as camp begins.
