Hong Kong mother, aunt, held after cannabis sweets send 2 children to hospital

Police in Hong Kong have arrested a mother and her aunt after their two children were hospitalized following consumption of cannabis-infused sweets. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at a residence in Wang Tak House, Wang Tau Hom Estate. The children, a six-year-old boy and a twelve-year-old girl, exhibited symptoms of illness, with the girl vomiting and the boy briefly losing consciousness. Emergency services transported the children to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei for medical attention.

Sources indicate that the mother, aged 41, had unknowingly purchased a box of sweets with English labeling from a store. She gave some of these sweets to her children while she went shopping, leaving the siblings unattended. Upon her return, the mother discovered the children in distress and immediately called for medical assistance.

The great aunt, 61 years old, explained that she had bought the sweets during a recent trip to the United States but was unaware that they contained cannabis. Both the mother and the great aunt were subsequently arrested - the former on suspicion of child abuse, and the latter on suspicion of possessing dangerous drugs.
