Gorakhpur: 9-year-old boy killed in revenge attack over eve-teasing complaint

In the town of Pipraich, a nine-year-old boy named Saras Singh lost his life and his 16-year-old cousin Shiv Kumar sustained severe injuries in a revenge attack on Saturday evening. The assault occurred after a group of men allegedly targeted the boys in response to a complaint lodged at the Pipraich police station regarding the alleged harassment of Saras’s female relative in Class 11.

The two boys were reportedly intercepted near Bella Kanta Crossing while en route to a local paan shop. Shiv Kumar was the primary victim, but Saras attempted to intervene and sustained fatal injuries in the process.

Medical authorities took both boys to the Pipraich Community Health Centre and subsequently referred them to BRD Medical College, where Saras succumbed to his injuries around 2 am on Sunday. Shiv Kumar remains in critical condition. Police sources revealed that the dispute originated from an incident in the first week of July, when a local youth allegedly harassed Shiv Kumar’s female relative during a community event. Although a village panchayat had resolved the issue, tensions persisted between the two factions.

Upon learning about the attack, police quickly responded, deploying additional personnel to the area. Forensic experts collected evidence, and an investigation was launched, including the examination of CCTV footage and gathering eyewitness accounts. The SP of North, Jitendra Kumar, registered an FIR as per the complaint filed by the deceased’s father, Raju Singh, who had initially accused several youths in the eve-teasing case.

A team of three police officers has been mandated to arrest the accused, who fled the scene following the violent incident. The local authorities have since tightened security measures in the area and are continuing their investigation.
