Ukraine hits targets deep inside Russia, killing eight

On Sunday, Ukrainian drones targeted vital military, energy and civilian infrastructure sites within Russia, resulting in at least eight deaths. Russia's Defense Ministry reported downing 635 drones during the attacks. In Engels, located on the Volga River, two individuals perished when drones struck residential buildings, while a nearby apartment complex in Saratov City sustained damage.

In Udmurtia, 3 people were killed and 2 injured, and in Belgorod, 3 fatalities and 5 injuries were reported, according to local authorities. Zelenskyy claimed Ukraine had hit an oil refinery in Saratov and a military base housing Russian long-range bombers in Engels. He described the strikes as a response to Russian aggression and praised Ukrainian forces for bringing the war back to its origin.

Fires damaged both the Saratov oil facility and a military base, and Ukrainian forces also struck an oil depot in Kaluga region. Unverified footage on social media suggested fires engulfed the Saratov oil site. Additionally, Ukraine targeted the e-commerce platform Wildberries, striking a logistics warehouse in Samara, over 500 miles from Ukraine's frontline.

This marks the latest assault on the retailer, which Ukraine alleges supports Russia's military. Since July 18, Kyiv has attacked nearly a dozen Wildberries warehouses. Although the number of drones Russia claims to have downed remains unverified, the figure underscores the magnitude of Kyiv's efforts to strike deep into Russia.

The Wildberries attacks aim to bring President Putin's war closer to Russian citizens, exerting pressure on the country's struggling economy in a bid to end Moscow's invasion.
