Scuffle and chaos mar MQM-P meeting as two groups clash at party's Bahadurabad office

On Sunday evening, at least four individuals sustained injuries during a violent altercation that erupted at the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) headquarters in Bahadurabad, Karachi. The clash originated from a disagreement between factions within the party, involving supporters of Anis Qaimkhani and Mustafa Kamal, and those backing Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Aminul Haque. Police were on-site to maintain order, with no formal complaints lodged yet.

The meeting, attended by senior party leaders, turned chaotic at around 7:20pm when Dr Siddiqui departed, sparking a physical confrontation between the two rival groups. Reports indicate that members of the Qaimkhani group allegedly attacked members of the Siddiqui faction, forcibly removing them from the premises. Amidst the turmoil, heavy gunfire was heard from inside the headquarters, instilling fear and panic among the surrounding populace.

One of the injured, Amir Ali, 40, received a bullet wound and was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The police surgeon, Dr Summaiya Syed, confirmed that three additional individuals, struck by sticks or stones, were also brought to the hospital. The injured person with firearm injuries was transferred to a private facility for further treatment.

Following the disbursement of the leaders and workers, no arrests were made, and the police maintained a visible presence at the scene. Sindh government spokesperson Sadia Javed criticized the incident, stating that efforts to divide Sindh had backfired as the party members themselves splintered. She emphasized the unity of the people and reaffirmed Sindh's resolve to remain undivided.
