Home owners worry about proposed 40m telco tower going up next door

West Australian residents living near a proposed 40-meter-high telecommunications tower are expressing anger and disappointment over their lack of consultation on the project. The site, located on a parcel of land on the outskirts of Wyndham town in the northernmost part of Western Australia, was selected during a June 2025 council meeting and subsequently opened for public comment in July.

Property owners who have lived near the site for years claim they were kept in the dark about the development until this month, despite works having already begun. Harry Ciccotosto, a resident for 15 years, expressed concern over the tower's potential impact on property values and safety, stating that no one would purchase a property with such a high tower looming over it.

Glen Highett, a neighbor for seven years, also voiced his dismay about the tower's proximity to residents, claiming it should have never been considered as a viable location. NBN Co defended the site selection process, stating that the Durack Road location was chosen through collaboration and consultation with the Shire and involved detailed technical assessments.

The company encouraged feedback during the public comment period and emphasized that the investment aims to improve high-speed broadband connectivity for the community. However, the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley declined to comment on the matter.
