Greek police arrest suspect over British woman’s body found in suitcase

Greek police have apprehended a suspect in connection with the murder of a British woman whose remains were discovered in a suitcase in Athens last month. The 26-year-old Afghan national has reportedly confessed to his actions, and investigators have solved the homicide of the 38-year-old UK national, whose body was found inside the abandoned building in Kypseli area on July 18.

The woman, believed to be Elisabeth-Jane Ross from Scotland, had arrived in Greece on June 26 and stayed at a friend's residence in Piraeus until July 10. She subsequently traveled within the Athens region under unknown circumstances. It later emerged that the suspect had placed the victim's body in a suitcase and transported it to the abandoned location. Additionally, over the subsequent days, the 26-year-old allegedly utilized the victim's bank cards to withdraw funds.

The suspect stated that he found the victim already deceased when he discovered her. Interpol authorities in the United States assisted in identifying the victim's fingerprints, while liaison officers from the United Kingdom National Crime Agency and Scotland police collaborated to aid the investigation. Despite the advanced decomposition and unfavorable environmental conditions, investigators managed to extract usable fingerprints belonging to the victim, as reported by the police.
