Bomb carried by woman kills three, injures 21 near Moscow restaurant, authorities say

On Saturday evening, a homemade bomb concealed by a woman resulted in three fatalities and twenty-one injuries near an upscale restaurant in central Moscow, according to authorities. The blast took place just before 8:00 PM local time near an Italian restaurant situated in one of Moscow's seven Stalin-era skyscrapers at Kudrinkskaya Square.

The police reported that an unidentified woman attempted to enter the restaurant but was deterred by a security guard. Consequently, both the woman, the guard, and a customer at the Balzi Rossi Italian restaurant succumbed to the explosion. Those who endured injuries suffered varying degrees of severity, as confirmed by the police.

Russia's state RIA news agency broadcasted footage of heavily armed law enforcement officers at the scene, which had been cordoned off from the public. Neither the identities of the victims nor the suspected perpetrator were disclosed by the authorities. The Kommersant daily newspaper, citing its own sources, alleged that the bomb was meant to inflict harm and death upon guests enjoying the restaurant's summer terrace outside.

The bomb's detonation was reportedly carried out remotely, suggesting the woman carrying it may have been unaware of its explosive nature. The restaurant's website stated that it remained closed on Saturday for a private gathering.
