Google’s Pixel 11 Glow might be called ‘HiLight’

The "Pixel Glow" feature, initially spotted during the Android 17 Beta, could potentially be renamed "HiLight" for the Pixel 11 Pro. The name change was noted in April when the preliminary settings screen for the hardware feature was enabled. The feature utilizes subtle light and color on the back of the device to alert users to important activity when it's face down.

Two specific features were identified through strings in the Settings app: one that shows Google's teasers alongside the flashlight in the Pixel 11 Pro Camera Bar, and another that creates a full spectrum of colors with a rotating effect reminiscent of the Mac pinwheel. According to recent reports, the actual name for this feature is "HiLight," which is a playful translation of the camel case Google is using.

The name implies that the feature will highlight favorite contacts and Gemini, while also making it clear that it's a physical light. It's unclear at this point whether third-party apps will be able to access HiLight or if it will only be available for Google apps.
