Real American Freestyle (RAF) made its Middle Eastern debut in Abu Dhabi, with Khamzat Chimaev as the star attraction. RAF is a new unscripted professional freestyle wrestling league featuring Olympic champions, world medalists, and top MMA crossover athletes. The inaugural event in Abu Dhabi is part of a five-year partnership between Real American Freestyle, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, and the UAE Wrestling Federation.
The match against former UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington for the Cruiserweight Crossover Championship will take place on Saturday, November 14 at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island. Chimaev, an undefeated grappler in freestyle wrestling, faces Covington, who retired from MMA in May and has repeatedly criticized Chimaev. A mass melee occurred after a previous RAF match, and Covington warned of potential chaos at this event.
Other notable fighters on the card include Arman Tsarukyan, Umar Nurmagomedov, Kyle Dake, Kennedy Blades, Zabit Magomedsharipov, Giga Chikadze, Jordan Burroughs, and Kyle Snyder.
