Liguria saw a 3.16% increase in tourist arrivals, reaching 18.6 million in the first nine months of the year, according to regional data. The region has allocated 10 million euros for tourism-related investments in 2026 to boost the sector. Regional assessor Luca Lombardi explained that the funds will cover various strategic areas, including tourism promotion, marketing, local identity enhancement, digitalization, destination development, and event support.
A significant portion of the investments will go towards promoting Liguria domestically and internationally, supporting local events, and commemorating traditional festivities. Additionally, 580 million euros will be dedicated to local identities, with 250,000 euros allocated for 102 unique events promoted by Pro Loco and 330,000 euros for 77 community-organized activities.
A budget of 460,000 euros has been set aside for Christmas-related initiatives involving 160 municipalities across four provinces. The funds will also be used to develop the digital tourism ecosystem, strengthen the Inliguria agency, and launch Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) in Tigullio and Spezia. Lombardi emphasized the importance of a coordinated approach between public and private sectors to foster tourism growth.
The assessment also highlighted the focus on outdoor tourism, accessibility, and territorial development projects. Lombardi stated that the aim is to create a competitive, sustainable, and year-round attractive tourism offering. The assessment of the new DMOs in Tigullio and Spezia is also in progress, with further DMOs expected to be formed in the future.
Lombardi stressed the importance of quality services, well-positioned structures, and higher average revenue per stay to enhance the competitiveness of the entire Liguria region.
