I'd stopped reviewing the basics, so I built a small site to practice them
Hi Devs 👋 This is my first post here! I use AI tools every day for coding (as the workplace keeps asking for faster and better results every day!), and somewhere along the way I stopped reviewing the basics 😅 The things they ask you in interviews, the ones you're supposed to just know. So I made Repaso, a free site to practice for software interviews, in English and Spanish. "Repaso" means…
Hello Devs! Welcome to my first post on this platform. I work with AI tools daily to code, but I recently found myself neglecting the fundamental knowledge that interviewers expect. To address this, I created Repaso, a free site designed to help you practice for software interviews in both English and Spanish. The term "repaso" means "review" in Spanish, which is precisely what this site provides.
The site contains 897 questions spread across 17 topics. You can access Repaso without needing to create an account or deal with advertisements. As soon as you open the site, the first question is presented to you. I've implemented a five-box system, inspired by the Leitner method, to track your progress. Each correct answer moves a question up a box, while a mistake sends it back to the first box.
Missed questions return the same day for you to review. If you're unsure, there's an "I don't know" option, which presents the explanation without counting as a mistake.
In addition to the standard modes, Repaso offers a random mode, a misses-only mode, and a timed exam feature (30, 60, or 90 seconds per question). Your progress is saved locally in your browser and works offline after your first visit, thanks to a service worker. You can sign in with Google or GitHub to access the site on another device, but signing in is not required and nothing is transmitted unless you choose to do so.
The site is built using plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript modules, without any frameworks. The questions and explanations are also AI-assisted. There are no dependencies in the `package.json` file, and Playwright is installed separately for browser testing. A small Node script generates a static page for each question, topic, and a sitemap, enabling search engines to read the site without running any scripts. The entire process is automated through GitHub Actions, only proceeding after passing unit and browser tests.
Each question has a unique ID, and the Spanish version exists in a separate file that matches the ID. The translation process ensures that code spans remain unchanged, preserving the line structure. If you have suggestions for improvement or notice any errors, you can suggest a question or fix using the dedicated link. Contributions are welcomed under the CC BY 4.0 license for content and MIT for the code. You can find the source code and content on GitHub at https://github.com/babylonace/repaso.
