Guilford football grinds out win against Branford, solidifies position in Class M playoff picture
Both Guilford and Branford are in the hunt for spots in the CIAC Class M playoffs.
The Guilford football team edged out Branford 7-6 in a rain-soaked game at Kavanaugh Field on Friday, Nov. 6, 2026. Coach Brian White emphasized the importance of securing any win at this stage, stating, "Sometimes, football teams need to grind out ugly ones, but they all count the same." The victory was crucial for Guilford's position in the Class M playoffs, as they would control their own destiny.
Branford, meanwhile, retained a chance to make the postseason as well. Junior running back Shane Connelly was the standout player, scoring the game's only touchdown on a screen pass and contributing to two first downs in the final drive. Despite a missed extra point by Aidan Tracy, Guilford's efforts secured the win, a result Coach White acknowledged was achieved through grit and determination.
