Stray Kids Label JYP Entertainment Sues Distributor Over ‘Stolen’ Track Upload

Someone put a pirated version of "back to life" by Stray Kids member HAN on streaming services. The K-pop conglomerate wants damages.

Stray Kids Label JYP Entertainment Sues Distributor Over ‘Stolen’ Track Upload

Korean music giant JYP Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against indie distributor OneSync Music, alleging the company uploaded a pirated version of Stray Kids member HAN's solo track "back to life" to streaming platforms. The legal action, reported by Billboard, centers around the June solo track, which JYP claims was unlawfully re-uploaded by OneSync Music after being taken from YouTube.

JYP argues that OneSync Music, operating in partnership with Warner's Atlantic Records and 10K Projects, posted the stolen HAN track on streaming services using the distribution account "yungzzz." According to the lawsuit, JYP first released "back to life" on YouTube as a prerelease music video in May, but the song suddenly appeared on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube under the artist profile "yungzzz," with JYP's original copyright management data removed.

JYP claims it identified the distributor as Hitmaker Music Group and reached out to their lawyers, who then pinpointed the owner of the "yungzzz" distribution account as Miles Gaines, a Los Angeles-based rapper and founder of OneSync. Gaines told Billboard that he was unaware of the upload and that the recording has since been removed.

He added that OneSync takes copyright protection and artists' rights seriously and will cooperate fully with the legal process.
