SOLUM partners with Infineon expanding HVDC power for AI data centres

Power supply manufacturer SOLUM signed a memorandum of understanding with Infineon Technologies to develop high voltage direct current power solutions designed specifically for artificial intelligence data centres

SEOUL, South Korea - SOLUM Co., Ltd. and Infineon Technologies AG have inked a Memorandum of Understanding to bolster their joint efforts in developing high-voltage direct current (HVDC) power solutions tailored for AI data centers. The two companies are set to concentrate on intermediate bus converters (IBCs), battery backup units (BBUs), and power supply units (PSUs) to address the escalating power demands and the growing emphasis on energy efficiency, power density, and system reliability in next-generation data centers.

Through the MoU, Infineon will collaborate with SOLUM in the initial stages of relevant projects, evaluating suitable technologies and product solutions, while providing reference designs and technical support using its extensive portfolio of silicon (Si), silicon carbide (SiC), and gallium nitride (GaN) power semiconductors and control solutions.

SOLUM, in turn, will leverage its server power design and manufacturing expertise to create AI data center power products and explore application prospects with global customers. The companies have pledged to maintain regular technical discussions on forthcoming developments, with the Infineon-SOLUM Collaboration Tech Day serving as a platform to showcase AI data center power solutions, including a 26 kW-class BBU DC/DC converter boasting a peak efficiency of over 98.5% and targeted for mass production in 2027.

Both companies acknowledge the critical role of HVDC power architectures in reducing power losses and enhancing reliability in AI data centers, and are eager to advance HVDC power solutions to support the next-generation AI infrastructure.
