MultiChoice scraps Africa Magic Family after 12 years

MultiChoice has ended its 12-year run of the Africa Magic Family channel, replacing it with a new entertainment channel called Africa Magic+. The decision was announced on Thursday via Africa Magic’s official Instagram page, which described the closure as the end of one chapter and the start of another. The channel thanked its viewers for their support, saying, “Goodbye, Africa Magic Family,” before adding that the closure would lead to a new offering.

The post exclaimed, “One chapter closes, but the story is far from over. Africa Magic Family is officially closed, there’s so much more coming your way.” The announcement also hinted at the upcoming replacement, stating, “Expect more variety on Africa Magic+,” with the new channel set to launch on November 5 at 6am West African Time.

Africa Magic Family was known for airing family-friendly Nollywood films, Nigerian drama series, and other African entertainment programs, and had cultivated a loyal audience among viewers who enjoyed locally produced movies and television dramas, particularly those from Nigeria. The new Africa Magic+ is expected to provide a wider range of entertainment options, as part of MultiChoice’s broader effort to refresh its programming and expand its content offerings.

The changes to DStv’s channel lineup and subscription packages took effect on November 5, 2026, marking the end of Africa Magic Family’s run and the beginning of a new era for the channel.
