MP3 stars Paul F. Tompkins, Skye Townsend, and Aparna Nancherla on improv, TRL, and kisses
Dropout's new scripted series, "MP3," pulled some influence from "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and Nancherla's closet.
Dropout, the streaming platform known for shows like Game Changer, Dimension 20, and Very Important People, has debuted a new scripted series called MP3. Breaking from their usual improvisational format, MP3 is MTV's parody, featuring quirky VJs and three new music videos per episode. SNL's Jeremy Culhane plays Dane Cartel, a former boy bander and MP3 host, alongside Skye Townsend as Dr. Muse-Tina and Aparna Nancherla as Chia.
Tompkins, Townsend, and Nancherla spoke with Entertainment Editor Kristy Puchko about MP3's creation, improv, and potential crossover with other Dropout productions. They revealed that MP3 includes songs written by the platform's creators, Zach Reino and Jess McKenna, and fictional bands featuring well-known Dropout cast members like Anna Garcia, Lily Du, Jacob Wysocki, Katie Marovitch, and Sam Reich.
The trailer teases the return of Princess Emily of Maroon 5 and suggests that Paul F. Tompkins may reprise his role as David Hoyle Jr.
MP3's first episode is now streaming on Dropout, with new episodes airing every two weeks until the season finale on December 2.
