MoPH commences transfer of food safety mandates to new authority

Doha - The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in Qatar has begun transferring food safety mandates to a newly established authority, the General Authority for Food Safety. This move, prompted by Amiri Decision No. (41) of 2026, demonstrates the nation's dedication to building a robust national food safety system.

Minister of Public Health H.E. Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud thanked His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his ongoing support to strengthen public health, protect community health, and improve food safety standards. The MoPH emphasized that the creation of the General Authority for Food Safety is a significant step forward in the development of Qatar's food safety framework.

The new authority will act as a central institution for food safety governance, unify mandates and responsibilities, and improve oversight, all of which will bolster consumer health protection and public trust in food safety. Its responsibilities will encompass ensuring the safety and suitability of food throughout the entire food chain, mitigating food-related risks, and upholding the highest standards for consumer health.

The MoPH will continue to collaborate closely with the Authority and other stakeholders to complete the transfer of mandates, functions and responsibilities in line with the established guidelines. These measures aim to guarantee a seamless transition, maintain uninterrupted services, and fulfill the objectives set forth for the establishment of the authority.
