Masa suntuk sukar pulih kepercayaan penyokong PH, Bersatu, kata penganalisis

Analysts suggest that the limited campaign period of about 10 days prior to Melaka's PRN is insufficient to rebuild the trust between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Bersatu supporters, allowing for a full-scale election transfer, stated panning analyst Tawfik Yaakub from Universiti Malaya. The history of disputes between the two parties, particularly following the Sheraton Step in 2020 that led to the downfall of the PH government, makes a transfer of votes between the two groups challenging.

Support for both PH and Bersatu may find it difficult to accept DAP candidates who have been criticized by them, while PH supporters still harbor political resentment against former PM Muhyiddin Yassin's leadership. "Political trust eroded over years cannot be rebuilt through mere leader understanding in a short campaign period," Za said to FMT.

PH's Melaka Secretary Adly Zahari, during a radio program on Wednesday, stated that combining both parties will not prevent their supporters from voting for Bersatu candidates in areas not contested by PH. However, Adly did not issue any specific direction as PH focuses on winning 24 contested seats, besides emphasizing the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) as main rivals.

The deputy of Amanah president, Amanat's vice president believes that even with six Bersatu MPs, including Muhyiddin, signing the Confidence and Capability Agreement (CSA) on October 29, it does not guarantee collaboration in political efforts. In the upcoming PRN, PH will contest 24 out of 28 DUN seats while Bersatu has placed candidates in seven seats.

Nonetheless, Tawfik believes that a pragmatic and simple voter may be willing to overlook past disputes if the goal of preventing BN and PN's victory appears more important. However, he predicts that the transfer of votes will only happen selectively rather than fully.
