How the cast of 'I Play Rocky' compares to the real-life people they're playing
"I Play Rocky" tells the true story of how "Rocky" was made. Here's who plays Sylvester Stallone, Carl Weathers, and the rest of the cast.
I Play Rocky provides a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the iconic 1970s film Rocky, focusing on the real-life people the cast portrayed. Anthony Ippolito's portrayal of Sylvester Stallone accurately captures the actor's voice and mannerisms, making his performance almost indistinguishable from the real Stallone.
AnnaSophia Robb effectively plays Stallone's first wife, Sasha Czack, who was not only a still photographer on set but also a source of emotional support for Stallone throughout the demanding filming process. Robb's portrayal highlights the strong bond between the couple, as they were married two years before Rocky's release and divorced in 1985.
Matt Dillon's depiction of Stallone's father, Frank Stallone Sr., captures the tension between the father and son, as described in Sly's 2023 Netflix documentary. Dillon's portrayal is rooted in his extensive acting career, having starred in iconic films such as The Outsiders, Drugstore Cowboy, and Wild Things.
