Spacetech startup Cosmoserve raises $6M in seed round
Cosmoserve also opened a facility in Hyderabad which will be utilised for satellite servicing and space debris recovery.
Cosmoserve Space, a Hyderabad-based spacetech startup, has secured $6 million in seed funding from various investors including Rebright Partners of Japan, Aranya Holdings, Naandi Ventures, AUM Ventures, and Shakti VC. This brings their total funding to over $9 million. The company has also launched Base 1, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to designing, building, testing, and operating systems for satellite servicing and space debris recovery.
This new facility will feature an orbital rendezvous and capture lab, a space robotics innovation lab, a clean room for satellite integration, a mission simulation and control center, and more. Chiranjeevi Phanindra, Founder & CEO of Cosmoserve Space, stated that Base 1 will enable the company to develop the capability to keep orbits usable, supporting future missions such as Gaganyaan and the Bharatiya Antariksh Station.
In addition to addressing space debris, the facility will support satellite servicing, including in-orbit repairs and refueling. Cosmoserve currently sources around 60% of its mission components locally, with plans to further develop critical technologies in-house through Base 1 to bolster domestic manufacturing capabilities. The CEO highlighted that space debris is a significant challenge in the global space industry, with nearly 10,000 dead or non-operational satellites and 68,000 pieces of debris orbiting Earth, posing risks to operational satellites and missions like the International Space Station.
