FULL TEXT: Ronaldo’s retirement letter to Portugal fans

To the Portuguese people, Cristiano Ronaldo addressed the fans announcing his retirement from the national team. Over 23 years, he had the privilege and responsibility of wearing the shirt, defending it, and carrying it to stadiums worldwide. This was not an easy decision, as some decisions are made with both the head and heart.

Ronaldo's career with the national team began in August 2003 and changed his life forever. He sees more than goals, records, and trophies when looking back; he sees people, immigrants feeling closer to Portugal during matches, and millions who became part of his life. Ronaldo always pushed beyond his limits, striving for victory, being the best, and leaving a mark on history.

He believed in the possibility of going further and always gave his all for the shirt. Ronaldo faced perfect afternoons, unforgettable victories, and painful defeats. He made mistakes and suffered, but he never gave up and always felt proud to represent Portugal. Through his journey, Ronaldo learned that goals come and go, trophies end up in museums, and records are eventually broken, but the place held in people's hearts remains forever.

He leaves a special message to his teammates, thanking them for every run, hug, argument, moment of silence, victory, and defeat. To all the coaches, directors, doctors, physiotherapists, kit managers, staff members, and people who worked with him, Ronaldo expresses gratitude for their contributions, acknowledging those who went unnoticed.

To his family, he thanks them for sharing his dream and understanding the sacrifices made. To the Portuguese people, Ronaldo emphasizes that football is about people, not just a game. On that final day, Ronaldo will carry an image of the national anthem, seeing teammates, stands, children, mothers, fathers, grandparents, and Portuguese people from far away, united by one passion - Portugal.
