The Nigerian Law Society recently honored Chief Femi Fani-Kayode and four other distinguished legal professionals with the prestigious rank of Senior Counsel of Nigeria. The Blue Silks designation, introduced in 2025, acknowledges lawyers who have made exceptional contributions to specialized fields of legal practice outside the courtroom.
The conferment ceremony took place at the society's 2026 Annual General Conference in Utako, Abuja. Fani-Kayode, who serves as Nigeria's High Commissioner to South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini, accepted the honor and urged for the protection of Nigerians' rights and dignity on a global scale. He emphasized that justice should be accessible to all, regardless of social, economic, or political status.
The NLS President, Amb. Dahiru Aliyu, explained that the society aims to recognize non-litigation legal professionals who contribute to areas such as corporate administration, legal consultancy, arbitration, and more. The Blue Silks initiative encourages younger law graduates to uphold professional ethics and pursue continuous professional development.
