(Illustration by Bernama) PERTHIBING JAYA: Aliff Daniel Adli, 21, who engaged in religious practices other than Islam to declare his apostasy or isytihar, alongside his mother Rohizayanti Ramli, 52, and his cousin Nur Ranea Ezreen Adli, 19, attended a public declaration of repentance at the Selangor Islamic Department (Jais) in the Shah Alam Islam Shah Mosque at the Islamic Consultation and Prayer Hall.

The public declaration of repentance for Aliff, Rohizayanti, and Nur Ranea Ezreen was witnessed by Selangor Mufti Anhar Opir, Selangor Islamic Department Secretary Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini, and Exco of Faith Control for the Islamic Faith Control (Mais) Khadijah Khambali@Hambali. The event was also attended by Mais Chairperson Salehuddin Saidin, Jais Executive Secretary Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad, and the Deputy Head of the Investigation and Development Division, Muhamad Sujak Muhamad Dasuki, as main observers.

Previously, Aliff was undergoing religious rehabilitation at the Gombak Barat Sessions Court after pleading guilty to the crime of performing wrongful worship. Syarie Magistrate Mohd Faizal Habib ordered the offender to undergo the punishment at the Baitul Iman Faith Restoration Centre in Ulu Yam for three months, effective today.

Based on the crime, he was charged with performing wrongful worship by worshipping other religious objects, performing rituals involving body adornment, and praying while placing both hands on the chest in front of a statue in the Batu Caves, between 9 PM and 11 PM on January 24, 2024.
