Tyrese Maxey’s MVP Case: Why The Sixers Star Is A Legitimate Candidate

In the early games of the 2026-2027 NBA season, Tyrese Maxey of the Philadelphia 76ers has emerged as a legitimate MVP candidate. Maxey is currently fourth in the NBA in points per game, averaging 29.1 points per contest. He has led the Sixers to a perfect 7-1 record in clutch situations, scoring 88 fourth-quarter points, which is 26 more than the nearest competitor.

Maxey is the only player in the NBA to have scored 25 points in every game thus far, further solidifying his case for MVP consideration. The Sixers' point guard has also shown exceptional defense, intercepting passes multiple times each game and leading his team in transition. While the addition of star players Jaylen Brown and LeBron James may have been expected to limit Maxey's involvement, the opposite has occurred.

Instead, Maxey's point total has increased year-over-year, making him the clear leader and the best player on the Sixers team. This has led to Brown stating "It is Maxey's team, 100%". If the best player is on the best team, then that player is at least a first-team All-NBA selection. Maxey's remarkable speed, shooting ability, and defense make him a standout player to watch.

While the Sixers may not win the MVP award, Maxey is undoubtedly a First-Team All-NBA player and a key contributor to the team's success.
