Maharashtra Cabinet Waives Stamp Duty On Siddhivinayak Trust’s ₹94-Crore Purchase Of Ram Mansion In Mumbai

On Wednesday, the Maharashtra Cabinet decided to waive all stamp duty on the purchase of a property by the Shri Siddhivinayak Ganpati Temple Trust in Mumbai. The property, known as the Ram Mansion Cooperative Housing Society, is situated adjacent to the famous Siddhivinayak Temple. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presided over the Cabinet meeting where the decision was made.

The trust purchased the housing society for Rs 94.11 crore. It comprises 20 units, spread across 708 square meters, including 13 residential flats and seven commercial units. The Cabinet approved the acquisition of all 20 units for a total of Rs 94,11,65,550.

The primary aim of the waiver is to facilitate additional facilities for devotees visiting the temple. The trust plans to use the property to improve devotee amenities, including queue management, a prasad distribution center, a kitchen, accommodations for pilgrims, and limited parking facilities.

The transaction would have otherwise attracted a stamp duty of Rs 2,32,38,700. However, given the public interest involved and the intended use of the property for pilgrim facilities, the state government chose to waive the entire stamp duty.
