GC University Faisalabad Changes Name

The Punjab government has amended the names of several public sector universities in the province, resulting in the name change for Government College University Faisalabad. As per the decision, the university will now be referred to as Government College, Faisalabad, with the word “University” removed from its title. The Higher Education Department of Punjab issued a notification on October 23, 2026, notifying vice chancellors and rectors of both public and private universities about the revised names under the Public Sector Universities (Amendment) Act, 2026.

This amendment, introduced through legislation and published in the Punjab Gazette (Extraordinary) on May 6, 2026, directs the universities to comply with the new law. However, it is essential to note that the change will only impact the institution's official name while its mandate and functions related to higher education will remain unchanged.
