20th coronation Anniversary: Gov Lawal hails Sultan as beacon of unity and stability

President Bola Tinubu has honored Sultan Sa'ad Abubakar on his 20th year on the throne. In a personally handwritten statement, Mr. Tinubu commended the Sultan for his humility, bravery, and contributions to Nigeria's unity since taking the throne. Sa'ad Abubakar, a former Army officer, succeeded his brother Muhammad Maccido, who passed away in 2006.

The president highlighted how the Sultan has not only preserved, but also enhanced and redefined the Sokoto Caliphate, turning it into a powerful tool for peace, unity, and national progress. President Tinubu addressed the Sultan as "My Dear Leader and Esteemed Brother" and extended his birthday wishes to him. He noted that upon his ascension, the Sultan approached the role with humility, courage, and a strong sense of duty.

Over the last twenty years, the Sultan has maintained the rich heritage of the Sokoto Caliphate, improved it, and transformed it into a force for peace, unity, and national development. According to the president, Abubakar's astute judgment, his composure during difficult times, and his persistent dedication to Nigeria have consistently impressed him.

The president emphasized that the Sultan is more than just a traditional ruler; he is a moral leader, a bridge between different religions, a moderate voice, and a steady advisor to various leaders throughout the country.
