Bleecker Street on Monday released the first trailer from The Liberation, the dramatic thriller written and directed by Guy Nattiv and starring Carrie Coon in a role that has been garnering award-season buzz since the pic’s world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival. In a trailer for the upcoming film The Liberation, actress Carrie Coon is portrayed as embarking on a journey with a group of liberated women deep in the woods. Directed by Guy Nattiv, who previously won an Oscar for his short film Skin in 2019, the movie centers around Rita, a woman in her prime faced with the consequences of her past.
She meets magnetic spiritual leader Ricki, played by Lily James, and decides to leave her family behind to join the all-female commune. However, when her daughters Ella and Jo arrive and get entangled in the group's alluring world, Rita must choose between reconnecting with her family or remaining committed to the life she believes can help her find salvation.
The film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and Telluride earlier this year, received generally favorable reviews. With its release date set for January 8, The Liberation appears to be more of a casual escape from the usual cinematic offerings rather than a strong contender for accolades in early 2027.
