Super Falcons: Tinubu redeems $100,000 promise for 10th WAFCON triumph

President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his promise to the Nigeria women's football team, the Super Falcons, by distributing the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player and $50,000 to each coach and official, following their victory in the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The National Sports Commission (NSC) announced the payments on Monday, highlighting the government's commitment to honoring the team after their record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

The Super Falcons received additional accolades, including title documents for their three-bedroom apartments in Abuja and the national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the NSC, expressed gratitude to Tinubu for recognizing the team's achievement and fulfilling his commitments in record time.

This timely payment marks a significant shift from the past, where athletes often had to wait years for promised benefits. The Super Falcons secured their 10th continental title in July 2025, overcoming a two-goal deficit to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final held in Rabat.
