Ghanaian event host MC Kabutey has urged students to seize the networking opportunities available to them during their time at school. Speaking on The Career Trail Season 4 on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, Kabutey emphasized that the relationships and experiences gained while in school could lead to future opportunities. He encouraged young people to actively participate in various activities, meet new people, and explore their interests outside of the classroom.
Reflecting on his time at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kabutey shared how he spent his first year exploring the different activities and communities on campus. He discovered the Campus Christian Family (CCF), where students from various academic backgrounds came together to stage drama performances based on Bible stories.
Fascinated by the acting, costumes, and creativity involved, Kabutey joined the Communication Arts Department (CAD) during his second semester. This decision marked the beginning of his career in theatre, acting, and emceeing.
Kabutey's involvement in CAD also introduced him to influential individuals who later held significant positions in their respective fields. Notably, Samuel Nartey George, the current Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations and a Member of Parliament, was his colleague in the mass drama group at KNUST. Kabutey recalled how their collaboration in the drama group eventually led to George becoming a prominent figure in the government.
Furthermore, Kabutey shared his experience of trying salsa dancing while at KNUST, despite some reservations from the Christian community. He joined a salsa group at Independence Hall and continued dancing at the Aviation Social Centre after graduating. Through these experiences, he met people like Chatterhouse Public Relations Officer, Robert Klah.
Kabutey emphasized that while knowing influential people is beneficial, the key to unlocking opportunities lies in building relationships where those individuals recognize your value. He argued that simply knowing a prominent person does not guarantee opportunities, but when that person knows you, the impact can be substantial.
