Recurrent Energy sells 200MW battery storage portfolio in France
Solar developer Recurrent Energy completed the sale of two 100 megawatt battery energy storage projects totaling 800 megawatt hours in France to energy storage operator BW ESS
KITCHENER, ON, October 29, 2026 - Canadian Solar's subsidiary, Recurrent Energy, has sold a pair of 100 MW/400 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in France to BW ESS, a global energy storage owner-operator. Both projects, Baixas in Pyrénées-Orientales and Coquainvilliers in Calvados, boast high-capacity transmission-level grid connections and face minimal network constraints. Combined, they offer 200 MW/800 MWh of flexible capacity to France's electricity grid.
Recurrent Energy originated and developed these projects, handling land acquisition, grid connection, permitting, and local stakeholder engagement. BW ESS's acquisition represents the first partnership between the two companies, paving the way for BW ESS's entry into the French energy market. Recurrent Energy will continue leading the projects through development until BW ESS takes over construction and operations, with the intention of long-term ownership and operation.
Erik Strømsø, BW ESS's CEO and Co-Founder, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Recurrent Energy and the strategic addition of these assets to BW ESS's global energy storage platform. Dylan Marx, Recurrent Energy's CEO, highlighted the transaction's significance in showcasing the company's capacity to deliver high-quality BESS projects while maintaining involvement through development and commercial operation.
The completed projects will bolster grid stability, balance supply and demand, and facilitate the integration of renewable energy into France's power system.
