Police arrest man at Penang airport over RM3.2m cannabis bound for London; RM1.05m drugs seized in Jelutong

In an incident at Penang International Airport on October 18, local authorities apprehended a 28-year-old man from Miri, Sarawak, who was found in possession of 40 kilograms of cannabis buds, valued at RM3.2 million. The drugs were allegedly being smuggled to London and the man was acting as a drug mule. He reportedly accepted RM9,000 from an individual to transport the drugs. Initial urine tests indicated that he tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. The man admitted to having two previous criminal records.

In a separate incident, police executed a raid at an apartment in Jelutong, Penang, resulting in the arrest of three individuals, including a Chinese national woman. The drugs seized had an estimated value of RM1.05 million. A 26-year-old local man was apprehended in front of the apartment's elevator with a 1.3-gramme packet of ketamine.

A 40-year-old Chinese national woman was found on the 10th floor of the apartment, believed to be involved in the processing and distribution of drugs. Authorities discovered seven kilograms of MDMA powder, Erimin-5 pills, a small quantity of ketamine, and a liquid form of methamphetamine, along with equipment for repackaging MDMA.

The woman is believed to have been responsible for repackaging MDMA, which was then sold to customers arriving at the apartment. Two additional arrests were made during the operation, with two of the suspects testing positive for ketamine, and another for cannabis. All three individuals were previously convicted of criminal and narcotics offences. They have all been remanded in custody under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
