Our Commitment to Ndi Enugu: The Journey So Far
GUEST COLUMNIST BY PETER MBAH First let me begin by giving my profound gratitude to the entire Management and Staff of Godfrey Okoye University and its other collaborators for this
Distinguished Guests, today I have the honor to stand before you and highlight the significant transformations that have occurred within our state of Enugu. One of the inaugural and crucial achievements was the resumption of regular activities on Mondays. I vividly recall the profound impact that the sit-at-home orders had on the daily lives of our citizens.
The fear it instilled and the economic repercussions it caused were considerable. However, today, individuals are able to conduct business without constraint, children can attend school, and businesses can engage with customers, transport goods, and maintain a workforce. While it may appear peculiar that we should celebrate such a fundamental aspect as the ability to go to work on Monday, those who lived through those challenging times understand its true significance.
Security provided the foundation upon which subsequent improvements could be realized. Our focus then shifted towards enhancing the state's infrastructure, particularly the condition of roads and the mobility of people within the region. Road construction often elicits discussions centered around distances and contract values; however, the true essence of infrastructure is experienced on a more personal level. Citizens are acutely aware of the roads they traverse daily.
