NAIMOS arrests suspected illegal miners after resistance at Subin Akwaaboso

On November 1, 2026, the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) conducted an operation at Subin Akwaaboso in the Central Region to arrest suspected illegal miners. However, the enforcement team faced resistance from a group who were armed with cutlasses, firearms, and other offensive weapons, posing risks to the personnel and others present at the scene.

The statement released by NAIMOS on November 2 detailed that the enforcement team, led by Colonel K. S. Appiah, maintained maximum restraint during the confrontation and took decisive actions to avert further escalation. The Secretariat emphasized that any interference with lawful enforcement activities would be dealt with seriously, and those accused of attacking personnel or disrupting operations would be referred to the appropriate authorities.

NAIMOS reiterated that it would continue to operate within the law, taking necessary and proportionate measures to safeguard its personnel, accompanying journalists, and the public. The Secretariat also appealed to community leaders and residents to support lawful enforcement activities and address their concerns through authorized channels.
