Murree Announces Winter Safety Plan for Tourists

The district administration, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and Rescue 1122 have unveiled a comprehensive winter tourism safety and disaster management plan for Murree. The initiative, dubbed 'Mission Safe Winter', comes into effect after the onset of the first snowfall in the Galiyat region, with the tourist season slated to commence on December 15 and conclude on February 15.

To ensure seamless traffic movement and visitor safety amidst heavy snowfall, the administration has implemented an array of measures. Nineteen tourist facilitation centers have been set up across Murree, Galiyat, and the routes linking Rawalpindi, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir. These centers will be on standby to offer immediate assistance and guidance to tourists in case of emergencies.

Continuous monitoring of Murree’s roads and entry points is being ensured through 181 high-tech Safe City cameras and thermal drones. Additionally, a special contingent from the Pakistan Army will be on duty to provide round-the-clock surveillance.

The Health Department has been directed to ensure the availability of medical professionals and medicines 24/7 at hospitals. The Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) will keep a watchful eye on hotels and petrol stations to thwart overcharging, profiteering, and breaches of officially sanctioned rates. Uniform fare schedules and standardized food prices will also be enforced.

Over 20 modern snow-clearing vehicles, along with cranes and loaders, have been deployed at strategic locations to keep roads clear during the snowfall season. New Rescue 1122 stations have been activated, and an air ambulance strip along the Murree Expressway is also in the pipeline to enable aerial assistance during critical emergencies.
