Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Accuses Congress, Rahul Gandhi Of 'International Conspiracy' To Destabilise India

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis denounced Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi and the opposition, alleging an international plot to destabilize India and subvert its democratic institutions. Addressing a BJP-organized march in the city, Fadnavis claimed the opposition's "regime change" slogan was unconstitutional and aimed at installing an ultra-leftist government.

He argued the opposition's fight was against the Constitution and democracy, not just Prime Minister Narendra Modi or the BJP. Fadnavis cited political changes in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka to argue the opposition's agenda. He accused Congress of attempting to replace the existing political system and constitutional framework, as well as undermining the Constitution during the Emergency imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975.

Fadnavis also attacked Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray for using the "regime change" phrase without understanding its implications. He accused Congress of attempting to establish an ultra-leftist political order and referred to the BJP's Constitutional safeguards as being undermined during the Emergency. He claimed the Opposition sought to target India's constitutional institutions like the RBI, Election Commission, and Supreme Court through protests, rather than legal remedies.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Congress President Harshwardhan Sapkal accused the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of opposing the Constitution, calling Fadnavis' comments about Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar "fake".
