Israeli strikes kill three people in Gaza, medics say

Israeli strikes on Monday resulted in the death of three Palestinians and injuries to several others in the Gaza Strip, according to the territory's health officials. Two separate airstrikes in Khan Younis and an airstrike in Al-Mussadar were responsible for the fatalities and injuries. The Israeli military has not commented on the attacks.

Israel attributes the increased strikes to the Hamas militant group allegedly rearming and launching attacks in breach of a year-old ceasefire. However, Hamas denies involvement in attacks and blames Israel for undermining the Gaza peace deal. The US-brokered ceasefire, signed last year, aims for eventual reconstruction of the territory, but progress has been slow as negotiators have been unable to agree on terms for Hamas to disarm or Israel to withdraw its troops.

Currently, troops control approximately two-thirds of the territory, forcing residents to seek refuge in war ruins and makeshift tents under Hamas's control.

Since the ceasefire, Israeli attacks have killed at least 1,580 Palestinians in Gaza, as per the health officials. Israel claims four soldiers have been killed in the conflict. Palestinian authorities report over 74,000 casualties in Israel's assault on Gaza, which began following Hamas-led fighters' attacks on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed.
